First Full Day in Milan

The first day in Milan was a bit of a blur given the fact that we began our day at 3am Alabama time. Roughly at 10am, we were off into the wet and rainy streets of Milan. We walked what felt like forever to the metro station to catch the red line into the city center. The metro station was interesting… It is not much different from the DC metro and much cleaner than New York’s. Yet, it still had a je ne se quois that resembled activities and excrements that occupy Linn Park. We first visited this humongous castle. Mind you, there were frigid rains and blistering winds that occupied this visit to and through Castello Sforzesco. The castle was really cool but not what I was expecting. Since it is so old and has been through so much, they repurposed the building into a museum. I think I was expecting something like Mount Vernon where they preserve the space to mirror what it looks like back then. There was no furniture on display per say. However, they had lots of rock, artifacts, and tapestries from ancient roman times. It was really cool to see something so old. I think it put the meaning behind the trip into perspective.

We then took the metro into the city and came out to be greeted by the Duomo. While only a few students got to tour the inside of the massive church, the outside alone was impressive to everyone.

Piazza del Duomo

To its left was a super luxury galleria that was filled with high-end fashion houses. The first ever Prada shop was there along with other designers, restaurants, and shops. Despite the swampy weather, it definitely smelled like money in there!

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

It was suggested that we visit this big Starbucks stop while we were downtown. It looked like a Willy Wonka coffeeshop. I did not buy anything there, but the energy was very much alive when I walked through.
