Welcome Dinner in Milan
It is the first full day and night in Milan. We have just arrived in italy at our hotel. We unpack and meet Morena for our orientation and welcome dinner. Everyone is filled with so many emotions and prepared to experience our very first authentic dinner in Milan. The restaurant we are going to is called Osteria del Treno. Here we will enjoy a 3 course meal. We walk to the restaurant and have a reserved table for all of us in the back. Glass bottles of water are placed out upon our arrival as we are expected to self serve it. Not long after we have just sat down our first course arrives. We are started off with some bread of course and some classic risotto. I have had risotto before but I was pleasantly surprised to know my peers have not. There were different reactions towards the liking of the dish but I thoroughly enjoyed it as I had cleaned my entire plate. As with a traditional italian dining experience there was a multitude of time in between courses, we were able to sit, enjoy and chat before our next course arrived. Being vegetarian my 2nd course was quite different from the others. I enjoyed 3 classic italian vegetarian sample dishes where appetizing would be an understatement. Finally it was time for dessert. Everyone is presented with a slice of what could be considered a chocolate cake. I would describe it to be chocolate mousse with ganache as the icing and pistachio shavings. As I savored every last bite the dinner was coming to an end. The experience was one of a kind and a great opportunity to not only understand italian cuisine and dining better but also get to know more about my peers. A wonderful welcome dinner to say the least, I enjoyed every bit of it.
