Prada meets Pastries: Marchesi 1824

Prada meets Pastries: Marchesi 1824

A glass of Ferrari rosé featuring the original Prada in the background.

Sipping Ferrari rosè at Marchesi 1824 while overlooking the beautiful Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II was a dream come true. While enjoying my long, slow Italian lunch, I remember thinking, “This must be a movie.” In that moment I was feeling present, privileged, spontaneous, passionate, and excited.

The menu was so cute and dainty.

Established in 1824, Marchesi is one of Milano’s oldest pastry shops best known for its selection of pastries, Panettone, Milanese Christmas desserts, and chocolates. Marchesi has become not only one of my favorite places that I have visited, but one that I would recommend to others when traveling to Milano.

The view from Marchesi.

So what is the correlation between Prada and Marchesi? Like Fondazione Prada, it is owned by the Prada Group! This is where Prada meets Pastries. In 2014, the Prada Group purchased most of Marchesi’s stake. This 200-year-old restaurant is still standing with four locations. Might I add, it is delicious.

The Prada store where Marchesi is located above.

Located right above the men’s Prada store and right across from the original Prada store, it is the perfect location to treat yourself to Prada and pastries.

The variety of pastries offered at Marchesi. All of them were so perfect that I thought they were fake.

Baked risotto.

Or even, a nice, slow lunch allowing you to take in the beauty of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

Marchesi Yellow.

Paired with my baked risotto, I ordered the Marchesi Yellow: a sponge cake with lemon cream and Sorrento lemon jelly covered in vanilla Bavarian cream coated with a yellow glaze and decorated with a Marchesi crown. Though not from Marchesi, this dessert came highly recommended by Stanley Tucci in his “Searching for Italy” TV series. So decadent and delicious— it melts in your mouth.

Jewelry exhibitions from inside the original Prada.

What’s a good pastry without a pairing of Prada? The inside of the original Prada was so BEAUTIFUL!
